Minutes Content for Thu, Apr 28, 2022
Chairperson Warren reviewed the reason for the meeting, stating a conference committee report that passed favorably out of the Senate and the House contained a technical error when it was compiled for the Governor to sign. Therefore, this Committee is called on to take action to clean up the technical error. Senator Warren stated HB2495 has already been enacted into law and the proposed action will not affect that law. The proposal would be to replace the contents of HB2495 with the contents of (22rs4067), a Proposed Senate Substitute for HB2495, which contains the contents of HB2299 as it passed the Senate and the House on April 1, 2022. (Attachment 1)
Senator Warren moved to amend HB2495 by substituting the contents in 22rs4067. Senator Wilborn seconded.
Jason Thompson, Senior Assistant Revisor, provided an overview of the bills that had been bundled into the conference committee report for HB2299, now included in 22rs4067: HB2299 as it was amended by the Senate Judiciary Committee; HB2508 as amended by the Senate Committee of the Whole; HB2582 as amended by House committee; SB435 as introduced but with an amendment in Conference Committee; and SB395 as amended by the Senate Committee of the Whole. The revisor responded to questions from Committee members.
Chairperson Warren called for any further discussion on the motion and seeing none, the Committee voted on the motion. The motion carried.
Senator Warren moved, Senator Haley seconded, to recommend Senate Substitute for HB2495 favorably for passage. The motion carried.
The meeting adjourned at 3:14 p.m.
