Chairman Waymaster opened the hearing on the bill.
Shirley Morrow, Kansas Legislative Research Department, presented the bill brief. The bill would double the appropriation to the the Kansas Teacher Service Scholarship from $1.5 million, serving 386 students to $3 million and serving 773 students through FY 2027. The average annual award is $4,000.
Representative Poskin presented testimony as a proponent of the bill (Attachment 1). Committee members received the following information: HB 2626 Cosponsors (Attachment 2); School Financial Aid by schools (Attachment 3); Student Financial Aid (Attachment 4); Kansas Teacher Service Scholarship (Attachment 5); and School labor shortage (Attachment 6).
