Staff briefed the Committee on the bill's contents. (Attachment 1)
Chairman Proehl recognized Senator Elaine Bowers.(Attachment 2) She said this bill was requested by the North Central Kansas Downs Syndrome Society. She said this license plate will be another opportunity to voice support for family and friends who have experience with Down syndrome - to raise awareness and improve the public attitude and acceptance of those with Down syndrome. She stood for questions.
The Chairman drew the Committee's attention to Written Testimony submitted in support of SB506 by Shella Thoman, who is the mother of a son with Down syndrome.(Attachment 3)
The Chairman asked if anyone else wanted to speak as a proponent, opponent or neutral. No one responded so the Chairman closed the hearing on SB506 and introduced Steve Hewitt, CEO of the Kansas Turnpike Authority.
