Short Title
Providing for the north central Kansas down syndrome society distinctive license plate.
Minutes Content for Tue, Mar 1, 2022
The Chair opened the hearing on SB506.
Mr. Siebers outlined the focus of the bill by saying that the bill would create a new distinctive license plate for the North Central Kansas Down Syndrome Society (Attachment 5). Responding to a question, he replied that the provisions of the bill are consistent with those of other distinctive license plates.
Shella Thoman, a citizen from Cloud County, related the story of the birth and life of her son Isaac, who was born with Down Syndrome, and how his life has benefited their family (Attachment 6). She noted that the possibility of a license plate identifying Down Syndrome has elicited support from over 100 families in 47 different counties in the state. Responding to a question from Senator Tyson, she responded that she would be amenable to adding an amendment to the bill to clean up some statutory language regarding distinctive license plates.
The Chair closed the hearing on SB506.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:13 a.m. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 2, 2022.
