Chairperson Huebert asked the Committee to work HB2466.
Revisor Jason Long explained Balloon Amendment #1 which removes the graduation requirement, adds changes to scholarships, and how schools will offer CS courses, and a reporting requirement on progress of offering CS courses in public schools. (Attachment 6)
Representative Thomas moved, Representative Estes seconded, to adopt the proposed balloon amendment. Motion carried.
Representative Sanders stated he will support this bill but would prefer there was a graduation requirement; he asked this be on record. Two issues that were discussed at length were: finding teachers who can fill these CS positions and funding challenges.
Revisor Jason Long explained Balloon Amendment #2 adds not-for-profit institutions of post secondary education as institutions where teachers can receive CS training with the scholarship. (Attachment 7)
Representative Thomas moved, Representative Estes seconded, to adopt the proposed balloon amendment. Motion carried.
Revisor Long explained balloon amendment #3 adds licensed teachers (in-service) to the teachers who could receive scholarships. (Attachment 8)
Representative Thomas moved, Representative Estes seconded, to adopt the proposed balloon amendment. Motion carried.
Representative Thomas moved, Representative Murphy seconded, to pass HB2466 as amended favorably for passage as a substitute bill for HB2466. Motion carried.
