Chairperson Petersen opened the hearing on SB313.
Mr. Siebers reviewed the bill by saying it designates a portion of U.S. Highway 69 as the Senator Tom R. Van Sickle Memorial Highway, the portion beginning at the junction of U.S. 69 and U.S. 54 in Bourbon County and running north to the Linn County line (Attachment 4).
Senator Tyson commented that the bill was requested by one of her constituents. When she commented that SB447, designating a bridge on K-126 as the Dennis and Jane Crain overpass, could be expedited by amending it into SB313, the Chair recommended she bring it as an amendment at the next meeting, when he intends to work SB313.
Written-only support for the bill was provided by the Van Sickle family and members of the Fort Scott community (Attachment 5).
The Chair announced that the day's bills would be considered for passage the following day. The meeting was adjourned at 8:44 a.m. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 16, 2022.
