Chairperson Petersen called the meeting to order and opened the hearing on SB446.
Assistant Revisor Adam Siebers briefed the Committee on the bill; it designates three bridges in Cherokee County as Veterans Memorial Bridges (Attachment 1).
Senator Mike Thompson testified as a proponent for the bill (Attachment 2). As a Navy veteran himself, he spoke firsthand of the sacrifices made by service members; he said it is fitting to honor Kansas veterans by designating these bridges as veteran bridges. Responding to a question, he replied that the decision to rename the bridges came from his own initiative.
Written only testimony was submitted by Senator Richard Hilderbrand (Attachment 3).
