Chairperson Owens opened the hearing on HB2607. Natalie Scott provided an overview of the bill. (Attachment 1) She stood for questions.
Natalie Chalmers testified on behalf of Attorney General Derek Schmidt in support of the bill. Ms. Chalmers stated the goal of this bill is to close a potential and inadvertent loophole created when the statue was amended in 2016. (Attachment 2) Ms. Chalmers stood for questions.
Clayton Perkins testified as a neutral conferee on the bill. He provided a suggestion for an amendment to the bill that he felt would ensure adequate notice to defendants and prevent unnecessary and protracted litigation regarding this clarification of the statute of limitations. (Attachment 3) Mr. Perkins stood for questions.
