The Chairman opened the hearing and called on Jason Long for a Revisors of Statutes review of the bill. Mr. Long outline the provisions of the proposed act.
Proponent Senator Mike Thompson who introduced the bill was not able to attend the committee meeting.
Proponent Jason Grill thanked Senator Thompson for his introduction and support for the bill. Mr. Grill explained that this bill would protect people who need an assistance animal and bring clarity to the law regarding the relationships between property owners and renters.
Proponent Dennis Watts explained that this bill provides a method for what someone with a disability needs to understand in order to benefit from an assistance animal. Mr. Watts described the process of obtaining an appropriate service provider document.
Proponent Kim Coates indicated that she is here to protect housing providers serve and protect people who require the benefits of a service animal.
Proponent Mike Long stated that as a housing provider this bill will help clarify and develop property owner policies that are fair and legal.
