The Chairman opened the hearing on the bill and called upon Mike Heim for a revisor overview of the bill.

The Chairman called for testimony on the bill.

General Perry Wiggins explained that the bill would rectify the fact that Kansas is one of the few states that has not yet erected a memorial on state capital grounds to honor Gold Star families. General Wiggins stated that the there will be no public funding involved, but that this bill would authorize a U.S. Treasury account for the purpose of accumulating private contributions for the project. Seeing no further testimony the Chairman closed the hearing on the bill.

The Chairman referenced the fact that the bill was co-sponsored by 38 senators and suggested immediate consideration for passage of the bill

Senator Longbine motioned to pass SB 330 out of committee favorably and the motion was seconded by Ranking Minority Member Faust-Goudeau. The motion passed.

The Chairman turned the discussion towards HB 2005 and called upon Jason Long for a revisor review of the bill and a proposed amendment.

Senator Longbine motioned to adopt the amendment and the motion was seconded by Senator Petersen. The amendment was adopted.)

Vice-Chair Hilderbrand motioned to pass the bill favorably out of committee and also allows for the revisor to make some technical clean-up amendments and the motion was seconded Senator Petersen. The motion passed

The Chairman turned the discussion toward SB 34 and call upon Jason Long for a revisor review of the bill and explain a proposed substitute amendment for the bill.

There was discussion about the fiscal notes associated with the bill and the Chairman called upon the committee to make a formal request for an updated fiscal note including the content of the amendment.

Chairman Olson suspended further discussion to provide the committee time to absorb the changes made by the substitute amendment.
