Staff briefed the Committee on this bill and answered questions.(Attachment 5)
Chairman Proehl recognized Representative Ken Collins as a proponent for this bill. (Attachment 6) Representative Collins provided background information on PFC Shane Austin, who was a resident of Edgerton, KS. He was killed while serving in Iraq and was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.
The next proponent was Debbie Austin, Shane Austin's mother. (Attachment 7) She discussed the personal side of PFC Austin.She said this bill will become a piece of their family history.
The Chairman drew the Committee's attention to the written testimony of Janet and Harold Austin, Jr.(Attachment 8) and Justin Austin and Lisa Blackwell (Attachment 9) in support of HB2458.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Chairman announced that the next Committee meeting will be on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at which time the Committee will hear two bills - HB2475 and HB2476.
