Chairperson Hilderbrand opened the hearing on HB2151.

Jenna Moyer, Staff Revisor gave an overview of the bill. She answered questions from committee members.

Steven Karrer stated in his proponent testimony that HB2151 would create a Kansas elder and dependent adult abuse multidisciplinary team (MDT) coordinator who would be required to establish a MDT in every judicial district. He said that HB2151 will increase communication between agencies and will also increase investigators'  knowledge and understanding of elder and dependent adult abuse investigations. (Attachment 7)

Steve Gieber gave proponent testimony. He strongly supports the Attorney General's office efforts in the area of abuse, neglect and exploitation. The Kansas Council on Developmental Disabilities supports this bill and sees it as a very important step in the prevention of abuse, neglect and exploitation.  (Attachment 8)

Margaret Farley testified as a proponent by stating that Kansas Advocates for Better Care supports the passage of HB2151 and hopes MDTs will help stem the rising tide of abuse, neglect and exploitation of older and dependent adults. (Attachment 9)

Chairperson Hilderbrand closed the hearing on HB2151 and adjourned the meeting at 9:25 a.m. The next scheduled meeting is March 24, 2021.
