Chairperson Kerschen opened the hearing  on SB261.

Tamera Lawrence of the Revisor of Statutes Office explained the bill.

Leo Henning testified in favor of the bill.  He explained to the committee that this bill permanently establishes the Asbestos Remediation Fund and allows the revenue to remain with the Asbestos Program. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment would no longer need Air Quality Fee Fund resources to implement the Asbestos Program.(Attachment) 1

Randy Stookey spoke in support of the bill. He told the committee that with the passage of SB61 the Kansas Department of Health and Environment would receive $110,000 from fees and penalties directly instead of this money being deposited in the State General Fund.(Attachment 2)
