Vice-Chair Owens opened the hearing on HB2077.

Natalie Scott, Assistant Revisor, gave an overview of HB2077(Attachment 1) There were no questions from the Committee.

Marc Bennett testified in support of HB2077 stating a cross-section of people with a hand in the criminal justice system were brought together to analyze a list of issues facing the criminal justice system. The 2020 legislative session shut down due to coronavirus before proposed bills could be passed and had some impact on the December 2020 final report and the way it was approached. Therefore, the Kansas Criminal Justice Reform Commission recommends the work of the Commission be extended at least one additional year. (Attachment 2) Questions by the Committee were addressed.

Nick Reinecker testified in support of HB2077(Attachment 3) There were no questions from the Committee.
