The Chairman opened the hearing on HB2456 - Tolling case length limits for certain juvenile offender. Jason Thompson provided an overview of the bill and answered questions from the committee. (Attachment 6)
No conferees appeared to speak on the bill.
Chairman Wilborn noted written testimony in favor of HB2456 submitted by Joe Norwood, Secretary of Corrections (Attachment 7), and neutral written testimony from Chris Esquibel, Kansas Association of Court Services Officers. (Attachment 8)
The Chairman closed the hearing on HB2456.
Chairman Wilborn asked if there were objections to working HB2474. Senator Pilcher-Cook indicated she will have an amendment to the bill; work on the bill was left for another day.
Senator Baumgardner referenced an article from the Wichita newspaper on the conviction of three men on charges of sex trafficking. She noted legislation previously passed by the committee had been a factor in the case.
The Chairman adjourned the meeting at 10:52 a.m.
