Scott Wells, Senior Assistant Revisor provided an overview on HB2554 stating it provides a sales tax exemption for all sales of tangible personal property or services purchased by or on behalf of Brothers in Blue Reentry program for the purpose of providing a cognitive faith-based curriculum to prepare inmates for reentry into the community. Mr. Wells stood for questions from the Committee.
Representative Debbie Deere testified as a proponent for HB2554 stating the program is a faith-based organization which consists of a small staff and volunteers (Attachment 1). Representative Deere stood for questions from the Committee.
Carl Hughes, Executive Director of Brothers in Blue Reentry testified as a proponent for HB2554 stating the program is a voluntary, faith-driven reentry program at Lansing Correctional Facility (Attachment 2). Mr. Hughes stood for questions from the Committee.
