Minutes for HB2608 - Committee on Ways and Means
Short Title
Authorizing the secretary of corrections to convey property to fire district 1 of Leavenworth county by quit claim deed.
Minutes Content for Thu, Mar 15, 2018
Chairperson McGinn opened the hearing on HB 2608. Jill Wolters provided an overview of the bill. (Attachment 3)
Representative Debbie Deere testified in support of the bill. Since 1952, the Lansing Fire Station has been located on land owned by the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC), who has paid all the utilities for the Fire Station. This bill is the result of negotiations between Fire District 1 and KDOC to transfer this one-acre tract of land to the Fire District and, in return, the Fire District will assume payment for the utilities. (Attachment 4)
Fire Chief Rick Huhn testified as a proponent of the bill. Fire District 1 has had great cooperation with KDOC and this bill will benefit both the State and the Fire District. Fire Chief Huhn responded to questions from Committee members. (Attachment 5)
There being no further conferees, Chairperson McGinn closed the hearing on HB 2608.
Senator Kelly moved, Senator Skubal seconded, to recommend HB 2608 favorably for passage and to place it on the consent calendar. Motion carried.
