Chairperson Kerschen called for final action on SB301.
Tamera Lawrence of the Revisor of Statutes office gave an update on the status of the bill.
Senator Francisco offered a balloon amendment which she explained.(Attachment 5)
Discussion on the amendment followed. Senator Pyle questioned the definition of the word "guide." He said that many people do what is called traded hunts where no monetary compensation takes place. Senator Berger then suggested that the word monetary be stricken, so the language would simply read compensation only. Chris Tymeson with the Department of Wildlife, Parks, and Tourism stood for questions from the committee and told them that the Agriculture Department was in favor of staying with the original language regarding monetary compensation.
Senator Francisco then offered another amendment which would go back to the original language, but strike the word monetary. Senator Rogers seconded the proposed amendment.
Senator McGinn said that the intent of this bill is to have the guide register so that the landowner will know who wishes to be on their land.
Senator Francisco withdrew her amendment and the consensus of the committee was that further discussion on this bill was needed. Since the allotted time for the committee was at an end, Chairperson Kerschen adjourned the meeting.
