Chairman Olson opened the hearing on HB 2524 - Allowing petitions for a protection from abuse order to include a request for transfer of rights to a wireless phone number. He called upon Matt Sterling for an Office of Revisor of Statutes overview of the bill. Matt Sterling provided a brief overview. He explained that the bill would allow victims of domestic violence the option to separate a cell phone from the account even though not being the primary account holder.(Attachment 1)
Proponent Katie Koupal explained that the bill would make it easier for victims of domestic violence and stalking to remove themselves from an abusive situation by giving them control of their wireless device and account. (Attachment 2)
