Scott Wells, Senior Assistant Revisor gave an overview on HB2500 which provides a sales tax exemption for the sales tax on all sales of entry or participation fees, charges or tickets and tangible personal property that are auctioned at its fundraising event. The purpose of the sales tax exemption is to support the Friends of Hospice of Jefferson County in end-of-life care for the Jefferson County community. Mr. Wells stood for questions from the Committee.
Representative Ellis, 47th District testified as a proponent to HB2500 stating Friends of Hospice assist in paying bills for dying patients without insurance coverage, with little insurance coverage or with high co-payments. Friends of Hospice is a support agency which is a 501(c) (3) organization (Attachment 1). Representative Ellis stood for questions from the Committee.
Samantha Black, Social Worker for Jefferson County Home Healthcare and Hospice testified as a proponent to HB2500 stating the monies raised by Friends of Hospice are used to purchase care supplies (Attachment 2). Ms. Black stood for questions from the Committee.
