Chairperson Hawkins opened the hearing on SB398.
Eileen Ma, Assistant Revisor, Office of Revisor of Statutes, explained the intent on this bill which would change the requirements for an individual to qualify for a senior status cosmetologist license by lowering the age from 70 to 60 and lowering the time the applicant has held a cosmetology license in Kansas from 40 years to 10. She said there would be a one-time senior status license fee.
Proponents:
Chiquita Coggs, Executive Director, Kansas Board of Cosmotology, said she supports this bill, and if passed, would provide an opportunity for licensees who have moved to Kansas from other states and who practiced in Kansas for at least 10 years the opportunity to retire with senior status (Attachment 3).
