The Chairman opened the hearing on HB2474 - Removing the requirement for district courts to mail marriage certificate information to the secretary of health and environment. Jason Thompson provided an overview and answered questions from the committee. (Attachment 1)
Kathleen Collins spoke in favor of HB2474 as a county clerk with personal experience in handling marriage certificates under current law. She indicated the information found on the marriage certificate is entered electronically at the county level, and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has access to that electronic information. This bill would eliminate the step of sending the paper copy to KDHE. (Attachment 2)
Chairman Wilborn noted neutral written testimony on HB2474 submitted by Elizabeth Saadi, State Registrar for Vital Records, Kansas Department of Health and Environment. (Attachment 3)
There being no other conferees, the Chairman closed the hearing on HB2474.
