Scott Wells, Assistant Revisor presented an overview on HB2488 noting the bill amends the definition section of the motor vehicle fuel tax statutes by deleting the word "alcohol" from the definition for special fuels. Mr. Wells stood for questions.
Michael Hale, Kansas Department of Revenue testified as a proponent for HB2488 noting it removes the word alcohol from the definition of special fuels. The Department of Revenue offered an amendment which is included in his testimony (Attachment 1).
Mr. Hale stood for questions from the Committee.
Randy Stookey, SVP and General Counsel, Renew Kansas Association testified as neutral to HB2488 (Attachment 2). He stated the intent of the bill of removing the word from "alcohol" from "special fuels" is to remove confusion that ethanol-blended fuel (gasohol) is a motor fuel.
Mr. Stookey stood for questions from the Committee.
After asking if there were any other conferees and seeing none, Chairperson Johnson closed the hearing on HB2488.
