Chairperson Bowers opened final action on HB2158. Mike Heim, staff revisor, reviewed the bill. Martha Dorsey, staff research analyst, provided additional information on the bill.
Mike Heim distributed and explained a balloon amendment. Mr. Heim suggested additional changes on Page 1, Line 19, after "before" inserting "the close of the polls on;" and, in Attachment A, to delete the presidential preference primary that's part of the current statute. (Attachment 2)
Senator Fitzgerald moved, Senator Foust-Goudeau seconded, to adopt the balloon amendment with the changes proposed by the revisor. Motion carried.
After some discussion, the Chair called for a vote.
Senator Fitzgerald moved, Senator Foust-Goudeau seconded, to recommend HB2158 as amended, favorably for passage. Motion carried. Senator Hardy voted no and requested his vote recorded.
