The Chairperson opened the hearing on HB2140.
Eric Smith stated that passage of HB2140 would allow Kansas to become a member of the Great Plains interstate fire compact. The compact would aid fire departments across the state to efficiently work with neighboring agencies located across state lines (Attachment 5).
Rodney Redinger gave an example of the Anderson Creek fire where the absence of a Compact meant that coordination of resources from outside the state of Kansas was challenging, and nearly impossible.(Attachment 6)
Representative Melissa Rooker spoke in support of the compact (Attachment 7).
