Chairperson Baumgardner began the hearing on HB2212. Tamera Lawrence, Revisor of Statutes, discussed HB2212 and gave a brief over-view of the bill. No questions were presented.
Chairperson Baumgardner noted we would hear from one proponent of this bill, and one also provided written testimony.
Chairperson Baumgardner introduced Dr. Tom Burke, TEA Member and President Emeritus at Kansas City Kansas Community College. Dr. Burke provided oral testimony as a proponent of HB2212. (Attachment 3)
Senator Bollier asked how often TEA met and whether the same accomplishments could be met with fewer members. Dr. Burke responded that they meet almost monthly, and they have twelve members that provide a good state-wide balance, noting they have fairly low expenditures.
With no further questions, Chairperson Baumgardner reminded the Committee that they were presented written testimony from Eric Burke, Kansas Association of Technical Colleges (KATC) President, as well as from the Kansas State Board of Education. (Attachment 4) (Attachment 5)
