Short Title
Amending certain employment security benefit provisions relating to receipt of separation pay.

Chairman Lynn opened the hearing on HB 2329 and requested Revisor Chuck Reimer to provide an overview of the bill.
Senator Bollier requested Mr. Reimer to review what happens when someone is receiving unemployment insurance payments and severance pay.
Chairperson Lynn recognized Justin McFarland, Kansas Department of Labor, who provided testimony in support of the bill. (Attachment 6)
Senator Bollier asked Mr. McFarland to explain how KDOL tracks whether a person receives severance pay and unemployment insurance payments simultaneously.
Senator Suellentrop asked what was the current balance of the Trust Fund. Mr. McFarland responded it was approximately $510 million. Senator Suellentrop asked what the average balance for the Trust Fund had been for the past 90 to 120 days. Mr. McFarland replied it had been steady with no unusual fluctuations.
Senator Holland and Chairperson Lynn expressed their appreciation to Mr. McFarland and KDOL for bringing this bill forward.
