Mike Heim, Senior Assistant Revisor, provided a briefing on SB8, which was similar to HB2158 with some exceptions.
Mr. Heim answered questions from the Committee.
There being no further questions, Representative Esau, Chair, opened the hearing on SB8 and introduced and welcomed the first conferee.
Ann Mah, Constituent Services Director and former Kansas legislator, provided testimony in support of SB8 on behalf of Senator Anthony Hensley, Senate Democratic Leader, Kansas Senate (Attachment 1).
There were no questions from the Committee for Ms. Mah.
Jamie Shew, Douglas County Clerk, Lawrence, Kansas, provided testimony in support of SB8 (Attachment 2).
Mr. Shew answered questions from the Committee.
There were no further testimonies in support of and none in opposition to SB8.
Bryan Caskey, Director of Elections, Kansas Secretary of State's Office, provided neutral testimony on SB8 (Attachment 3).
Mr. Caskey answered questions from the Committee and brought an amendment to the Committee's attention regarding deadlines for applying for advance ballots.
Representative Esau, Chair, requested that Mike Heim, Senior Assistant Revisor, prepare that amendment.
Mr. Caskey answered further questions from the Committee.
