Chairperson Dierks opened the hearing on SB100.
Zack Friddell gave an overview of the bill. (Attachment 1)
Representatives Crum and Winn asked questions of the Revisor staff.
Chairperson Dierks welcomed proponents of the bill to the Committee.
Dr. Flanders stated the reasons the Kansas Board of Regents supports the nursing service scholarship bill. The need for nurses in rural areas is great, and this scholarship would increase interest in nursing specialties, such as mental health, that are in need. (Attachment 2)
Representatives Schreiber, Sutton, Good, and Rooker, asked questions.
Matt Lindsey testified in favor of the bill as it increases access to nursing education and hence supplies the needy areas such as mental health facilities with good employees. (Attachment 3)
Kyle Kessler spoke as a proponent from the mental health services sector. The Community Mental Health Care organization he represents needs many more qualified nurses. (Attachment 4)
Representative Schreiber asked a question.
