Chairperson Schmidt opened the hearing on HB2217.
Scott Abbott, Staff Revisor, gave an overview of the bill.
Alexandra Blasi testified as a proponent of HB2217, stating that the bill would allow increased access to Naloxone and any future emergency opioid antagonists, similar to what has been done in 47 other states. (Attachment 8)
Dr. Jody Reel testified in support of HB2217, stating that it would aid in combating the opioid epidemic and improve the safety of Kansas citizens, law enforcement and first responders. (Attachment 9)
Jason White presented testimony submitted by Brandon Beck supporting HB2217. He said HB2217 would provide needed policy to allow for the expanded use of opioid antagonists which have proven to be successful as an emergency response to the national opioid epidemic. (Attachment 10)
Katie Whisman presented testimony in support of HB2217 which seeks to ensure emergency opioid antagonist medications are available to bystanders, first responders, and school nurses to use in emergency situations. (Attachment 11)
