Vice-Chairperson Bollier called the meeting to order and opened the hearing on HB2219.
Scott Abbott, Staff Revisor, gave an overview of the bill.
Brodie Cullumber testified as a proponent of HB2219. She spoke of the impact that being a Type 1 diabetic has had on her life. It is her hope that the passage of HB2219 would increase awareness about diabetes, help put information in one place and require action plans so policy makers can know what next steps to take to keep up the fight against diabetes.(Attachment 1)
Representative Blaine Finch presented testimony in support of HB2219 both as an elected official and as a parent of a Type 1 diabetic. The passage of HB2219 would allow for consolidation of data and require an annual work plan to be submitted to legislators.(Attachment 2)
Stewart Perry testified as a proponent of HB2219. He stated that the passage of HB2219 directs certain state departments and agencies to develop a plan on diabetes and to issue the report to the legislature. This report would then allow the departments of Kansas government to develop a strategic plan to address the pandemic of diabetes. (Attachment 3)
