Chairperson Schmidt called the meeting to order and opened the hearing on HB2030.
Norm Furse, Staff Revisor, gave an overview of the bill.
Representative John Eplee presented testimony in support of HB2030. His testimony stated that passage of this bill would allow pharmacists and pharmacy interns, with appropriate training, to begin vaccinating patients age 12 and older. (Attachment 1)
Alexandra Blasi testified in support of HB2030. She stated that additional availability of vaccination offerings may increase the number of minors receiving vaccinations and therefore would have a positive impact on the costs of future healthcare-related expenditures in the form of preventing illness. (Attachment 2)
Ron Hein gave testimony in support of HB2030 stating that the bill will increase needed vaccines for patients and families that would otherwise not be immunized. (Attachment 3)
Dean Benton presented testimony in support of HB2030 as it would allow increased access for vaccines as well as increased convenience for Kansans to be vaccinated. (Attachment 4)
Sam Boyajian testified that passage of this bill would position pharmacists to "pick-up" the overflow of unvaccinated young patients that have resulted from overburdened physicians. (Attachment 5)
Dr. Jody Reel stated that by allowing pharmacists to immunize adolescents it would increase access and awareness of immunizations. (Attachment 6)
