Minutes for HB2228 - Committee on Taxation
Short Title
Allowing property tax exemption on certain property without order of the board of tax appeals.
Minutes Content for Mon, Mar 6, 2017
Mr. Wells provided an overview on HB2228. Mr. Wells noted HB2228 represents a process change for two types of property to be exempt without order from the board of tax appeals. This would take two kinds of property out of the process and allow the county appraiser to sign off on the exemption which would be recreational vehicles and property acquired by a land bank.
Mr. Wells stood for questions from the Committee.
Chris Courtwright, Research Department noted HB2228 has no fiscal note. The bill would reduce administration of several kinds of property tax exemptions and no longer be handled by the Board of Tax Appeals but instead by the local county appraiser. The bill could save the Board money but currently there is no estimate.
