Mike Heim, Senior Assistant Revisor, provided a brief description of HB2333 - Audits of election results; voting machine requirements; timing of the canvass.
Representative Keith Esau, Chair, asked for the will of the Committee with regard to HB2333,
Representative Vic Miller, Ranking Minority Member, discussed the distinctions between HB2251 and HB2333 (heard Monday, February 13, 2017) and explained a proposed balloon amendment to HB2333, copies of which were provided to the Committee by Mike Heim (Attachment 1).
Representative Miller moved the Committee adopt the distributed amendment, seconded by Representative Brett Parker.
Questions from the Committee were answered by Mike Heim and Representative Miller.
Discussion on the proposed amendment followed.
Representative Parker suggested a change in the language of the amendment, which was accepted as a friendly amendment by Representative Miller, adding the words "in even numbered years" after the word "audit."
During discussion on the amendment, Representative Miller stated it was offered as a middle ground, to try to limit the number of audits being required.
There being no further discussion, Representative Miller closed.
The amendment was adopted with a majority vote.
The attention of the Committee then returned to HB2333.
Representative Kristey Williams moved the Committee pass HB2333 favorably as amended, seconded by Representative Miller.
HB2333 passed favorably as amended.
