Chairperson Campbell opened the hearing on HB 2347 and recognized Jason Long, Senior Assistant Revisor, and he gave an overview of the bill.(Attachment 1) Questions were asked by Representatives Trimmer, Rooker, Aurand, and Schwab.
Representative Ron Highland, 51st District, Kansas House of Representatives and Dr. Steve Abrams, former Kansas Senator were introduced by Chairperson Campbell. Both spoke as proponents to HB 2347. Dr. Abrams distributed the attached material.(Attachment 2) Questions were asked by Representatives Rooker, Aurand, Huebert, and Lusk.
Also speaking as a proponent for this bill was Dave Trabert, President, Kansas Policy Institute.(Attachment 3) The Committee did not have any questions for this conferee.
There were no written-only proponents.
Chairperson Campbell asked the Committee to hold all questions until all of the conferees have presented their testimony.
Mark Desetti, Kansas National Education Association, was recognized by Chairperson Campbell. Mr. Desetti appeared as an opponent to HB 2347.(Attachment 4)
Another opponent testifying before the Committee was G.A. Buie, United School Administrators of Kansas and Kansas School Superintendents Association.(Attachment 5)
Mark Tallman, Kansas Association of School Boards also testified against HB 2347.(Attachment 6)
