Chairperson LaTurner opened the hearing on SB 169.
Sherriene Jones-Sontag spoke in favor of SB 169. This bill would amend K.S.A. 2016 Supp. 74-8702 to authorize the use of electronic product dispensers (also known as vending machines) to dispense Kansas Lottery products (Attachment 6).
This bill does not "expand" the reach of the Kansas Lottery, but simply allows the Lottery to implement an industry best practice and further modernize its operations to become more efficient and effective in today's business environment
She stated that where vending machines are in use, there is a 30%-50% increase in sales and she demonstrated the vending machine with one from Missouri.
Dick Stoffer stated that the vending machines would be a nice addition to the state (Attachment 7).
Thomas Palace said the vending machines would generate revenue for the state of Kansas(Attachment 8) .
