The Chair opened the hearing on HR6016.
Mike Heim, Office of the Revisor of Statutes, gave a summary(Attachment1) of HR6016, a resolution denouncing the planned satanic worship ritual, the so-called "black mass, " on the grounds of the Kansas state capitol, scheduled to take place on March 28, 2025.
Representative Rahjes testified against the Black Mass and in support for HR6016.
Representative Moser stood in total(Attachment2) support of HR6016 and against satanism. Representative Moser testified in support of the HR6016 because the black mass is sacrilegious and satanist specifically state the black mass is meant to mock the holy sacrifice of the mass, which is the Catholic's highest form of worship to God.
Representative Stiens (Attachment3)testified in support of HR6016.
Lucretia Nold, Policy Specialist of the Kansas Catholic Conference (Attachmen4)testified. The Kansas Catholic Conference is in support of the HR6016.
There were no other conferees.
The Chair closed to the hearing on HR6016.
The Chair advised the committee would work the resolution. The Chair requested a motion to bring HR6016 up for a vote.
Representative Sanders moved, Representative Schmoe seconded, to move the resolution forward.The motion carried.
The Chair stated there would need to be two-thirds vote according to rules to move the vote forward. Vote was taken.
Division was called. There were 17 yeas and 5 nays.
Representative L. Ruiz moved, Representative Schmoe seconded to pass HR6016 out favorably as passed. Motion carried.
Representative Sanders requested his yes vote be recorded.
Representative Miller requested his no vote be recorded.
The Chair adjourned the meeting. 2:16 pm.
