Short Title

Expanding student eligibility under the tax credit for low income students scholarship program, increasing the amount of the tax credit for contributions made pursuant to such program and providing for aggregate tax credit limit increases under certain conditions.

Chairwoman Estes opened the hearing on SB87 and recognized Jason Long, Senior Assistant Revisor, Office of the Revisor of Statutes to explain the bill. (Attachment 4). Jason deferred to Legislative Research to answer a question regarding tax credits and contributions.

Chuck Weber (Attachment 5).  Mr. Weber was unable to answer a question regarding total amounts of tax credits and contributions. Chairwoman Estes recognized Elaina Rudder, Senior Research Analyst, Kansas Legislative Research Department, who reported the total amount of tax credits since the 2016 tax year are roughly 32.8 million, total amount of contributions 46.3 million. In the 2024 tax year 5.5 million tax credits, and 7.8 million contributions.
