Jason Long, Revisor of Statutes, (Attachment 1) gave an overview of the bill. He explained that the bill provides covenants, conditions, or restrictions established between January 1, 1948 and December 31, 1958, that restricts the use of real property owned by state educational institutions for only single-family residence purposes and contain discriminatory provisions to restrict ownership ordinance by race are against public policy and therefore void.
Tom Cox, Vice Presdent, Connected Nation, Inc (Attachment 2) explained that the bill would allow the University to remove itself from a racially, biased, crude, and immoral restrictive covenant.
Chairman Bergquist closed the informational hearing on HB2282.
