Chairperson Petersen called the meeting to order at 8:32 a.m. and opened the hearing on HB2263.
Assistant Revisior Adam Siebers briefed the Committee on the bill (Attachment 1). He explained that the bill designates a future interchange on K-10 Highway as the Kris Norton Memorial Interchange.
Jordan Herbert testified as a proponent for the bill (Attachment 2). He commented that Kris Norton was a long-time employee of the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) and was the project manager for the South Lawrence Trafficway (SLT) Project in Douglas County. Mr. Herbert traced the employment career of Mr. Norton and noted not only his technical ability but also his skill and leadership in working with and mentoring a wide range of individuals. He recounted times of personal involvement with Mr. Norton as they worked on the SLT Project.
Members expressed appreciation for the project and for the glimpses into Kris Norton's life.

The Chair invited members to express their pleasure regarding the bill.
Senator Petersen moved, seconded by Senator Claeys, to amend the bill by changing the publication date to the Kansas Register. The motion to amend passed.
Senator Kloos moved, seconded by Senator Klemp, to recommend HB2263 as amended to be favorable for passage. The motion passed unanimously.
