Jason Long, Revisor of Statutes, gave an overview of the bill (Attachment 1). He explained that the bill would increase the statutory limits on bonds issued by a township based on township population and purpose of the bond issuance.
Representative Kyle McNorton, 50th District,(Attachment 2) testified as a proponent to the bill. He believes the bonding limitations should be updated so that the residents of the Soldier Township may determine for themselves if the board should move forward with the new fire station.
Audree Guzman, Soldier Township (Attachment 3) testified as a proponent to the bill. She explained that the current statutes severely limit the financial capacity of townships like Soldier Township. This bill would modernize outdated legislation and provide Kansas townships with the financial tools to meet the needs of today's growing communities.
