Chairperson Petersen called the meeting to order at 8:35 a.m. and opened the hearing on HB2029.
Assistant Revisor Adam Siebers briefed the Committee on the bill: a portion of K-5 Highway will be designated the Rep Marvin S. Robinson Memorial Highway. Included in the bill is a redesignation of a portion of the Harry Darby Memorial Highway on Interstate 635. He noted that sufficient funds from gifts and donations will be needed to cover the cost of the signs (Attachment 1).
Representative Patrick Penn, District 85, spoke as a proponent for the bill. He commented on the determination that was evident in the life of Representative Robinson II to preserve the Quindaro Ruins/Townsite and be placed on the National Registry of Historic Places. Representative Penn spoke highly of his friend's commitment portrayed by the number of legislative actions sponsored during his time of service not only to Kansas, but also to the community he worked diligently to impact. Representative Penn requested the bill be passed to honor the life of Representative Marvin S. Robinson II (Attachment 2).
