Chairperson Smith opened the hearing for HB2125.
Adam Siebers, Office of Revisor of Statutes, provided an overview for HB2125 that provides acountywide retailer's sales tax authority for Pawnee County. (Attachment 1) Mr. Siebers stood for questions from Committee members.
Proponents:
Dr. Burdett, Pawnee County Board of Commissioners, and Douglas McNett, Pawnee County attorney testified by Webex as a proponents for HB2125. Dr. Burdett stated that Pawnee County would not increase the tax burden on the citizens of Pawnee County but creates fiscal flexibility for the Board of County Commissioners regarding existing retail sales tax proceeds. HB2125 would authorize Pawnee County to submit by ballot the question of modifying the existing dedicated 1.0 percent countywide retailers' sales tax to allow for the purpose of healthcare services. (Attachment 2) Mr. McNett stated this is not an additional 1.0 percent sales tax but taking the current 1.0 percent that is on the books and modify to use for emergency services. Dr. Burdett and Mr McNett stood for questions from Committee members.
