Chairman Petersen called the meeting to order via WebEx for the hearing on SB98.  Assistant Revisor Adam Siebers explained that the bill provides a new distinctive license plate for the Route 66 Association of Kansas (Attachment 1).

The Chairman introduced Aaron Perry, Vice-President of the Route 66 Association of Kansas who spoke in support of SB98.  He emphasized the importance of keeping this historic route alive for future generations.  He noted that Kansas has 13.2 miles of Route 66 with more attractions per mile than any other Route 66 state (Attachment 2).

Providing a bit of history, Mr. Perry spoke of the one-hundred-plus-years-old March Arch bridge known as the Rainbow Bridge near Riverton, Kansas.  He commented that the bridge is the last remaining March Arch bridge in all the 2,448 miles of Route 66.

He requested support for SB98 to help educate people and to showcase it on Kansas vehicles.

The Chair referenced Written Only testimony submitted by Senator Shallenberger, District 31 (Attachment 3).

The hearing on SB98 was closed.  The next meeting is scheduled for February 13, 2025.
