Chair Erickson opened the hearing SCR1620.
Staff provided an overview of the concurrent resolution. (Attachment 5)
Senator Doug Shane testified in support of the resolution. (Attachment 6) Our national debt threatens the stability of our country. This resolution acknowledges that risk and communicates to our federal delegation that the Kansas Legislature seeks changes in behavior, budgeting, and spending at the federal level.
Steven Johnson, Kansas State Treasurer, testified in support of the resolution. (Attachment 7) The resolution speaks for itself. The mounting national debt is one of the most serious challenges our country faces-both economically and from a national security perspective.
Elise Nieshalla, Indiana State Comptroller, provided proponent testimony. (Attachment 8) Our state’s recent national debt resolution has now itself become a model resolution with passage already being considered in ten other states’ legislatures, including yours. We ask you to join us in this most patriotic and country-sustaining effort by voting in favor of this resolution.
Written only testimony in support of the bill:
Ty Masterson, Senate President (Attachment 9)
Adam Schwend, Executive Vice President, Look To The States (Attachment 10)
