Representative James opened HB2626.

Carly Choi, Revisor of Statutes(Attachment 1) gave a brief overview of the bill.  She explained that the bill would expand veteran's preference in government employment to include current members of the national guard and such members' eligible spouses.

Keith Marshall, Lieutenant Colonel, Adjunct General's Office (Attachment 2) testified as a proponent to the bill.  He explained that the bill supports military families, and improves retention in the National Guard and Reserve, all while honoring the service of those who protect the state. He also provided the committee with an agenda for the Kansas Armed Forces Appreciation Day on February 11th.(Attachment 3).

Michelle Richart, Midwest Region Liaison Defense-State Liaison Office (Attachment 4) testified as a proponent to the bill.  She explained that the bill is a proactive step that strengthens Kansas' public workforce, supports military families and service members, and improves retention and readiness.
