Short Title
Providing for the Sedgwick county zoo distinctive license plate.

The Chair opened the hearing on SB342.
Mr. Siebers reviewed the provisions of the bill, a distinctive license plate for the Sedgwick County Zoo (Attachment 3). He explained that the plate would be subject to the 250 initial plate commitment and payment of up to $5000, with initial registration and subsequent renewals made through the county treasurer or the Sedgwick County Zoological Society. The latter would provide a logo use authorization statement. Royalty payments of $25 up to $100 would be required for the plates with fees going to the Sedgwick County Zoological Society.
Scott Newland, President and CEO, Sedgwick County Zoo, spoke as a proponent for the bill (Attachment 4). He gave a brief history of the zoo, which opened in 1971 with 2 domestic farm habitats on 212 acres. He explained the partnership between Sedgwick County and the Zoological Society, the the extensive impact of the zoo, and the experiences it offers to the community.
