Natalie Scott provided an overview of SB404. (Attachment 1) Ms. Scott stood for questions.
Bethany Roberts provided testimony in support of the bill. (Attachment 2) Ms. Roberts stated when someone sexually assaults another person and a child is conceived as a result of the sexual assault, it is important for Kansas' statutes to offer a variety of ways to protect the victim parent from being required to co-parent with the other biological parent. She explained the different modifications of the bill recommended by her organization. Ms. Roberts stood for questions.
Sara Rust-Martin provided testimony in support of the bill. (Attachment 3) Ms. Rust-Martin stated when a woman becomes pregnant as a result of rape, the rapist has the same parental rights as any other father. This means the mother could be faced with co-parenting with the rapist. This is unconscionable. Ms. Rust-Martin stood for questions.
