Chairperson Wilborn thanked the Committee for its hard work in first part of this session. He said he looked forward to an equally busy time now that Turnaround was past.
Jenna Moyer gave a brief of SB413 explaining that it would add private prison employees and correctional officers as persons included in the crimes of assault and battery of a law enforcement officer. (Attachment 1)
Larry Campbell for the Division of the Budget submitted a fiscal note for SB413. (Attachment 2)
Leyton Gunn for the Division of the Budget submitted the Kansas Sentencing Commission Prison Bed Impact Statement for SB413. (Attachment 3)
Rep. Kevin Braun spoke in support of SB413 explaining that consequences for assault to a corrections officer in a private corrections facility is not the same as assault to state and federal corrections officers. He asks that this oversight be corrected. (Attachment 4)
