Natalie Scott provided an overview of HB2675. (Attachment 1) She stood for questions.
Alyssa Bradford testified in support of the bill. (Attachment 2) Ms. Bradford testified she was a victim of child abuse by her step-father. She was called by Wabunsee County Sheriff's Department to provide a statement because her stepfather was abusing another child. When he was released from prison after serving 22 months she was fearful he would come and harm her. She was not able to get a protection order because she was no longer residing in his home. She stood for questions.
Brenda J Bell testified in support of the bill. (Attachment 3) Ms. Bell stated this amendment is keeping with policy and serves to protect some of the most vulnerable persons, those who speak out about abusers in an effort to end a cycle of abuse. She stood for questions.
Sara Rust-Martin testified in support of the bill. Ms. Rust-Martin stated that the current protection order is not long enough. (Attachment 4) The is no reason that victims of sexual abuse should remain afraid for their safety.
